Priorities for New Mexico
Improving the lives of everyone in New Mexico will be Sam Bregman's top priority as Governor. From improving public safety and building more affordable housing to improving our healthcare and education systems, Sam will always fight to ensure that everyone in New Mexico has the opportunities and resources they need to thrive.
Economic Opportunity
As the cost of living continues to skyrocket, it’s becoming more difficult for working families to get by. I firmly believe that everyone in New Mexico should earn a good, livable wage for a hard day’s work. As Governor, I’ll diversify our economy to create new opportunities for our state. Because our economy should serve the needs of working families – not billionaires and special interests.
Our state prides itself on the innovation and creativity of everyday New Mexicans. I’ll empower small business owners and entrepreneurs, providing them with the support they need to thrive and create good-paying jobs throughout our communities.
Healthcare
It's unacceptable for New Mexicans to wait months for essential medical care. As Governor, I’ll fix our broken healthcare system so that everyone in our state has timely access to the care and treatment that they need.
33% of New Mexicans and 66% of nursing homes depend on Medicaid. With ongoing threats from Washington to gut these critical programs, I’ll fight back against any attacks on Medicaid and Medicare to protect the services that countless families in our state rely on.
Education
Every child in New Mexico deserves access to a quality education, regardless of their zip code or family income. As Governor, I’m committed to improving our education system so every child is equipped with the resources they need to succeed. That includes investing in our teachers and educators, modernizing our school facilities, and expanding educational opportunities that allow each child to reach their full potential.
Housing
We urgently need to build more housing to ensure every New Mexican can afford a safe and secure place to call home. As Governor, I’ll tackle the housing crisis by addressing rising costs, protecting renters, and creating pathways for new homeowners.
I’ll also work to accelerate the construction of affordable housing and invest in mental health and supportive programs designed to reduce homelessness across the state.
Public Safety
As Bernalillo County District Attorney, keeping our communities safe has always been my top priority. While we’ve made great progress – like convicting violent criminals at record rates, keeping guns out of schools, and investing in mental health programs to address the root causes of crime – more work remains to be done.
As Governor, I’ll bring these proven strategies statewide to build a more efficient criminal justice system and ensure that every family in New Mexico feels safe in their home and neighborhood.
